A&R Solar, a leading solar installer in the Pacific Northwest is searching for a Solar Designer  to work with the sales team to ensure designs and drawings for residential projects are completed on time and adhere to the established specifications and standards.  The ideal candidate should enjoy complex projects, problem solving, be detail oriented, take pride in one’s work, and strive for the best quality. 

 

The Residential Solar Designer lays out the solar arrays, sizes the electrical equipment, and creates drawings that installers build from.

 

Position could be remote, with a preference for someone in the Pacific Standard Time zone.

Key Responsibilities of the Solar Designer:

  • Prepare custom solar designs including all electrical calculations and interconnection strategy, electrical equipment, racking, mounting, site layout drawings, BOM parts list, and specific installation requirements.
  • Complete packets and other design required documentation including Single Line diagrams and detailed racking guides to be used for permitting as well as construction documents for installation teams.
  • Prepare formal proposals and quotes for prospective customers in conjunction with Sales and Estimating teams.
  • Quality assurance checks on initial solar designs.
  • Pricing reviews with sales team on specific designs.
  • Work closely with sales, project managers and installation teams to ensure client’s needs and internal deadlines are met.
  • Work with building departments, utilities, or other AHJ to ensure compliance with local and national codes for permit acquisitions.
  • Coordinate with A&R Admin Staff to meet permitting and utility deadlines.
  • Log workflow and communications in company CRM.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the ETO, NEC, IFC and all building codes applicable for proper solar system design in Washington and Oregon.
  • PV and Battery Storage system design and expansions for current systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or directed.

 

The Successful Candidate Should Have:

  • Previous solar experience.
  • Solar specific education or certificates.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of grid-tied photovoltaic systems.
  • Experience using CAD or Google Sketchup or equivalent 3D modeling software. Sketchup preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel) and Adobe Pro.
  • Understanding of basic electrical design theory and concepts.
  • Knowledge of residential construction and current electrical and building codes.
  • PV systems and designs experience with storage systems, Tesla Powerwall preferred.
  • Able to multi-task and work on several on-going projects.
